Rob Thoman, Mayor
Mayor Rob Thoman
Rob Thoman has been active in our Southport community for many years. As a young boy, Rob and his friends rode the streets of Southport on their bicycles and played in the parks and ball fields of Southport. Rob's father was a dentist who had as patients, many Southport residents. Rob, also a dentist, now practices at Southport Road and US-31, just a few blocks from the original Madison Avenue office that opened in 1965.

In 1974, Rob graduated from Southport High School and enrolled at Indiana University, Bloomington. In 1977, Rob joined the United States Army Medical Corps and was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Colorado. Rob received his doctorate from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1987 before beginning private practice in Southport. He has completed postgraduate training at the Medical College of Georgia and at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Rob has received fellowship awards in both general and implant dentistry.

Since beginning practice in Southport, Rob and his wife, Carole, have been among our community's most energetic and ardent supporters. They have worked extensively in support of all three of Southport's local Boy Scout troops and the Perry Senior Citizens Services. Rob now serves on that board. He, along with other Southport stakeholders, started a local business chamber, the Greater Southport Business Alliance, and was elected president to serve its growing membership of 40-some local businesses. Recently, he was appointed to the board of directors of the Perry Historical Society.

Rob has also purchased and renovated a number of homes in Southport, and has managed to save the former Odd Fellows Lodge, one of Southport's most well-known structures, from certain destruction. He is also the CEO of a locally focused property-management company.

Having grown-up here, Rob's roots in Southport run deep. His vision for Southport is that of a vibrant and strong community where neighbors come together and communicate for the betterment of all. Among Rob's first priorities as mayor will be to open the lines of communication to all residents of Southport and to entertain a community-wide discussion that moves Southport forward from its path of gradual decline to an economically viable community. He believes strongly that the health of our Southport community depends on the health of its local business environment. Without commercial sustainability within the community, few residents will follow with their own local commitment and personal investment.

An avid pilot, Rob is a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association and Angel Flight Missions. Mayor of Southport
